Hello once again!
The past several months have been rough ones here at Room 209 Gaming. All three of us have gotten varying degrees of very sick or very very sick, two of us suffered through layoffs in their day jobs, and we’ve been working to finish off Forthright Open Roleplay once and for all. The great news is, Early Access is coming soon!
What is Early Access?
We feel confident at this point that Forthright Open Roleplay is ready for prime-time as a set of playable rules that don’t need us, the designers, holding your hand to play. But the only way for us to be sure is to put the book out in the wild and see what other people think! So Early Access is the rules, as they are, with little of the fancy layout / indexing / art that you would expect from a finished product you’d pay money for.
While folks are playing Early Access, we’ll be taking feedback on how their play experiences are going and their thoughts and reviews of the game. We’ll be doing this to ensure that we’re communicating what we intend to communicate, and to shore up any weaknesses in the game that have escaped our notice so far. Meanwhile, we’ll be working on layout and a final art buy so that, before the end of 2016, we can release the full and final product.
How can I get in on this?
If you’ve already playtested Forthright with us and have expressed interest in receiving updates from us, you should have gotten a copy of the Early Access rules already.
For folks who haven’t gotten the Early Access rules yet, we will be making them available as a free product on DriveThruRPG at the end of this month and will be announcing it here and on major roleplaying forums across the Web.
Is this just another playtest beta ruleset?
Absolutely not! We’re comfortable with the rules as they are, but feel it would be valuable to allow people to play the game and give us feedback while we work on layout. While there may be minor tweaks or additions/subtractions from the rules based on that feedback, we do not expect to be making any major system overhauls. You can play with confidence, knowing that the game is stable!
How big is it?
The Early Access Rulebook is currently about 61,000 words and 134 pages long, including game sheets.
What incentive do I have to give you feedback?
Players who participate in Early Access and provide Room 209 Gaming with thoughtful and helpful feedback (not just your game sucks! or I had fun) will receive a discount coupon for the final version of Forthright Open Roleplay when it is released. This final version will have full-color art and be available in both print and PDF.
Thanks for reading and we’re looking forward to sharing the fruits of our labors with you! If you have any questions or comments, please let us know.
